چکیده
Passage of the electron quasi-Fermi level through a discrete trap level in the forbidden energy gap of an insulator, due to injection of excess electrons, marks the onset of a nearly vertical rise of current with further increase of voltage. The corresponding TFI (trap-filled-limit) voltage enables simple measurement of the number of traps. (The sc,a indicates that this paper has been cited over 335 times since 1961.)

متن کاملThermometry and Refrigeration in a Two-Component Mott Insulator of Ultracold Atoms
Interesting spin Hamiltonians can be realized with ultracold atoms in a two-component Mott insulator (2CMI) [Adv. Phys. 56, 243 (2007); Rev. Mod. Phys. 80, 885 (2008)]. It was recently demonstrated that the application of a magnetic field gradient to the 2CMI enables new techniques of thermometry [Phys. Rev. Lett. 103, 245301 (2009)] and adiabatic cooling [e-print arXiv:1006.4674]. Here we pres...
متن کاملA Novel Method Describing the Space Charge Limited Region in a Planar Diode
A novel and rather simple method is presented to describe the physics of space-charge region in a planar diode. The method deals with the issue in the time domain and as a consequence transient time behavior can be achieved. Potential distributions and currents obtained using this technique, supposing zero initial velocity for electrons, reveal absolute agreement with Child's results. Moreover,...
متن کاملCharge imbalance observed in voltage-biased superconductor–normal tunnel junctions
We have studied the tunneling current of a superconductor-insulator-normal tunnel junction connected to a nonequilibrium superconductor in which nonvanishing charge imbalance is present, by injection experiments using multiterminal devices fabricated with electron beam lithography. We found that the tunneling current could be separated into excess current, due to charge imbalance, and normal cu...
